Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009 Preview

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009 and Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 was released earlier this month but there is no word of such release on their press center. However, a big promotional banner showing boxes of the new releases with a football field as a backdrop indicating that Kaspersky is trying to ride along the EURO 2008 football season tipped us off about the released. Today we will be taking a preview of the Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009 which spots a whole new graphic user interface (GUI). Cool!!

Kaspersky Scanning Panel

Love the new scanning features. Now you do not have the extra one pop-up window while scanning process - scanning is done in the main window. Besides that, it is nice that they have included a scan history so that you can continue scanning from the location where you last stop the scan as you do not need to re-scan the whole drive after pressing the stop button. Alternatively, you can issue a totally new scan process.

Kaspersky Anti-Malware Panel

Spots two utility button, the System Restore and Rescue Disk. System Restore is a new functionality in this 2009 version. This tool is able to return back certain Windows options after which a virus has disabled them. The Rescue Disk on the other hand, allows you to create a bootable disk and use it to perform a virus scan in a reduced set environment the event Windows have failed to boot up after a virus attack.

One of the new sound features of Kaspersky 2009 is the ability to detect vulnerability in software programs installed on the system. This serves as an alert to users. Users are encourage to perform an update to those softwares.

    2 questions….

    1) I want to run a Virus Scan in Safemode, but when the safemode screen comes up there are 3 choices to pick from and I have no clue what to pick! Any ideas?

    2) I can never look at the “Report” as it always freezes my PC. It would be very beneficial for me to view this report especially after having many virus’ yesterday including a keylogger.

    I have KIS Internet Security 2009. My PC is a VAIO desk top with Windows XP. I have been using Firefox lately, but my husband has been using IE 8. I won’t use IE 8 at the moment as it takes a good minute or longer just to load. I’m wondering if I actually just need to reformat?!?

    Suggestions please!
    Thanks!

    @amy,

    1. u can choose just the normal Safemode.

    2. Hmm, the report didnt freeze my computer. You should try Kaspersky support team. Reinstalling it perhaps.

    3. IE8 should load pretty fast, doesnt take a minute though. You could try reinstalling IE8 by downloading from Microsoft website. Else a reformat can solve it due to overloaded OS.
