We’ve always loved using Kaspersky. Yeah, not having to worry that some suspicious executable file is trying to take over your computer. Kasperksy Anti-virus 2010 comes at a price of $39.95 a year. Its latest features are the Kaspersky Internet Toolbar and Special Game Mode. Several improvements were made to the identity theft protection, urgent detection system, and proactive protection. Let’s start the review…
User Interface
- Straightforward and responsive.
- Nicer than its previous version (Kaspersky Anti-virus 2009).
- Had removed uneccesary graphs.

Computer Resources Usage
Computer specifications:
Pentium M 1.7Ghz, 533Mhz FSB, 2Mb L2 Cache. 1.00Gb DDR2 RAM, 80Gb Hard Disk. Installed on Windows 7.

- Very low RAM usage (14.2 Mb during IDLE, 14.5 Mb during Scanning).
- High CPU usage during Scanning process ( Max of 98%).
- Uses quite alot of CPU usage even during update.
High CPU usage during scanning is normal for a anti-virus. It allows faster scanning. Windows Task Manager did not correctly showed the actual CPU usages during scanning. We had to use Process Explorer to reveal it.
Good Features
- Start and Stop scanning with the ability to Resume scanning from last scanned directory.
- 3 Scanning Types (Full Scan, Quick Scan, Scan by Selection).
- Does not open an extra window for scanning.
- Remembers the time and detected threats of last scan.
- Ability to roll back to previous update.
- Extra security features (Virtual Keyboard, Rescue Disk, Tune up browser settings, Microsoft Windows Setting Troubleshooting, Erase your activities history).
- Types of protection (File, Mail, Web, Instant Messenger, Proactive Defence).
- Table-based logging (Time of detection, Status - Deleted?, What is Detected, Location of Object).
- Able to password protect the settings and prevent the closing of the anti-virus.
Cons
- Very slow at pausing protection. Enabling back protection is even longer.
- Quite high CPU usage during update process.

Re: Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 Review
Bought it in 9/2009. I manually update it once a day. So far twice it did not detect viruses - Malewarebytes did.
And Kaspersky can be aggrevating. It stops the response of whatever happens to be running when it scans. Often longer than 40-60 seconds.
“Yeah, not having to worry that some suspicious executable file…” I certainly would worry if I were you
How to open saferun mode file to normal mode?
this is something weird that is happening lately to my computer it never happened before, until about a month ago……everytime I run a scan on safe mode my computer crashes when it’s been only about 2% of the scanning done, and when I check on the cause, it just says unknown, and I can’t find the file that cause the trouble in the report …..but the weird part is that when I do the scan normally while on line….nothing happens….it just finish the scan normally…and the report says that none of the files are infected or not threats detected…..Please help!!!
Would recommend installing an on-demand scanner Malwarebytes (http://www.malwarebytes.org/)for a virus scan. After that uninstall your current anti-virus and try re-installing.
