AVG Anti-virus Free 8.0 Preview

AVG Free 8.0 released

AVG Anti-virus Free 8.0 was released on April 24,2008 and since then it was installed into our system. Compared to AVG Internet Security 8.0 which we reviewed about two months ago, AVG Free 8.0 only provides the anti-virus, anti-spyware and LinkScanner component minus six other major protection components like anti-rootkit and a firewall. You may think that “Hey, cool! LinkScanner in its free version!” but AVG decided to leave out the pro-active safe surfing module. This means that LinkScanner would not protect you from drive-by-download malwares like in its paid version.

Believe it or not, the highly anticipated Avast! Anti-virus v4.8 is already available for download - Home Edition and Professional Edition. Both only having a slight features difference but the Professional Edition has the extra protection from the Script Blocker for the web browser.

Norton AntiVirus Dual Protection for MAC

Symantec releases two new solutions

Symantec Corp recently announced the new Norton AntiVirus Dual Protection for MAC users. This anti-virus solution is targeted at MAC users who are running the Boot Camp or Microsoft visualization software so that they can have Norton AntiVirus installed on both the MAC OS and the Windows OS. This comes at a price of $69.90 which includes the Norton AntiVirus 11 for Mac and the Norton AntiVirus 2008 for Windows.

Early this month, Symantec Corp also announced the released for Norton 360 version 2.0 with newly added patent pending Browser Protection technology to protect users against drive-by-downloads. The Norton 360 is an all-in-one security solution which also includes anti-spyware, anti-phising, firewall, e-mail scanning and etc.
