How would you like an anti-virus software which is specially made for gamers? Bitdefender GameSafe was launched last month to specifically target the gaming community.
One of the very troublesome matter faced by gamers are pop-up appearing during a game causing a full-screen game window to minimize. Pop-ups ranging from virus update definitions, firewall permission/blocked alert and to virus found alerts frequently disturbs the gamer from enjoying the full quality of a game.
According to Bitdefender’s GameSafe press release “A system slow-down can have a life or death consequences in the virtual world. AVG Anti-virus Free 8.0 was released on April 24,2008 and since then it was installed into our system. Compared to AVG Internet Security 8.0 which we reviewed about two months ago, AVG Free 8.0 only provides the anti-virus, anti-spyware and LinkScanner component minus six other major protection components like anti-rootkit and a firewall. You may think that “Hey, cool! LinkScanner in its free version!” but AVG decided to leave out the pro-active safe surfing module. This means that LinkScanner would not protect you from drive-by-download malwares like in its paid version.

About a year ago, Sunbelt Software famous for their Counter-Spy product developed a totally new anti-virus engine from scratch - now they have released it under the name VIPRE for public beta. It all began when they realized that they needed an even powerful anti-malware technology. VIPRE is said to employ very powerful heuristic detection engine in addition to Sunbelt’s kernel-level active protection and FirstScan technology.

Believe it or not, the highly anticipated Avast! Anti-virus v4.8 is already available for download - Home Edition and Professional Edition. Both only having a slight features difference but the Professional Edition has the extra protection from the Script Blocker for the web browser.
