Microsoft Security February Update

Microsoft is planning to release 12 security updates (7 critical, 5 important) this coming Tuesday, 12 February 2008. Affected softwares are Windows, Office, Visual Basic, VBScript, JScript, Internet Explorer, IIS, Works, Active Directory and ADAM. You can get further information from the Microsoft Security Bulletin. Don’t forget to mark this day if you’re not on auto-update!

Adobe Reader 8.1.2 update

As of Feb 7 2008, Adobe Reader 8.1.2 update has been released to address a remotely exploitable issue and providing support for Mac OS X Leopard. As reported by the SANS Internet Storm Center, there is an Adobe Reader exploit already in the wild. The malicious PDF file is serve to users by an infected internet banner on a website and that no current anti-virus is able to detect it. Get update of Firefox 2.0.0.12

Firefox logoThe latest Firefox 2.0.0.12 has been released by Mozilla on 7 February 2008. It is always good to get the latest version as soon as it is released to prevent malicious code from taking advantage of the previous version’s vulnerabilities. One of the most critical issue in version 2.0.0.11 was Firefox crashing with memory corruption, an issue I think most users are experiencing lately. Latest Skype 3.6.0.248 fixes vulnerability

Skype officially released version 3.6.0.248 for Windows just hours ago to fix a long list of bugs. It includes a fixed to a cross-zone scripting vulnerability and a couple of issues that left Skype crashing. Raul over at Skype recommended everyone to download the latest released. With this released also you’ll be enjoying improved connection speed to Skype network if you’re in a restrictive network environment.

Office Excel gets vulnerable again

The guys at MRSC just announced what may appear to be a vulnerability in some of the Microsoft Office Excel versions. The Microsoft Security team are still investigating the matter as the attacks are still targeted and not widespread as of now. They will release an update soon if the matter is found to be genuine.
